Amanita

español

The Amanita mushrooms have been used for centuries by shamans on Siberia and the east of E.U and Canada (all tribes with similar practices). On a book written by R. Gordon Wasson: Soma:Divine Mushrooms of Immortality he studies the possibility that this mushrooms are the real Soma from the Rig Veda This mushrooms have also been found on: Central America, North Africa, Australia and Europe.

Mushrooms;Quick Definition

The first definition of mushrooms was written by Teofrasto (370 - 287 b.C ) who described it's characteristics: Plants that lack roots, leaves, fruits or flowers. Then, Pliny (79 - 23 aC) ,on his book "Naturalis Historia" ,defines the veil (the sheath that cover the mushroom when small) and describe a few mushrooms. His work was continued by: Pietro Antonio Micheli (1679-1737) who discovered the spores; their way of reproduction. Then Elias Fries (1794-1878) the "father of mycology" , completed the most intense study of this plants creating about 26 reports where he described about 3.000 species. Lucien Quelet (1832-1899), one of Fries' disciples continued his work adding about 400 new species. The mushrooms are a type of "fungi". They lack chlorophyll and obtain their food decomposing organic matter and extracting the nutrients.

The mushrooms have been divided on three types:

Parasitic- Lives on live organism without benefitting them.

Saprophytic-This one grows on death organism like dung or wood.

Mycorrhizal- This one creates a symbiotic union with the host .

Among the superior mushrooms are 2 classes:

Ascomycete - They include penicillin, bread mold, yeast and mushrooms like the Morel

Basidiomycete-This is the umbrella type mushrooms.

The umbrella shaped part of the mushroom is only the sexual part of the plant. Most of the mushroom lives below ground. This part is called the "Mycelium". The mycelium stays underground, growing and digesting the nutrients until, if the conditions allow it, send up the Basidiomycete (mushroom). On the cap are millions of spores that will be liberated at any moment. If they fall on a place where they can germinate, it will produce a new mycelium and grow for years.

DESCRIPTION

Amanita Muscaria and Pantherina only grows close to:Birch, Larch, Fir, Pine or Oak with which it creates a symbiotic union. Their spores are white and it grows inside a veil which it breaks after growing. The psychoactive chemicals are inside the hole mushrooms but it's mayor concentration is in the cap.

EFFECTS

Some of the common effects are:

1-Alteration of visual and auditive perception

2- Dizziness

3- Nausea (according to some people this can be eliminated with Marijuana )

After this, the person falls on a deep sleep for about 2 hours.

4-Lucid dreams

After waking up:

1-Good humor

2- Hallucinations

3- Euphoria

This last for about 3-4 hours .

The effects start after about 90 minutes arriving at a peak at 2-3 hours. Many people report not having a good trip with the Amanitas. Even so, all depends on the type of person, humor, prior experiences, etc.

Tip:To avoid nausea is recommended to eat light food 2-3 days before ingestion.

When the Amanitas are smoked they produce a sensation alike a strong dose of marijuana. The effect start rapidly and last considerably less than when ingested.

CHEMISTRY

On 1862 the first chemical was isolated, Muscarina, which they taught was the principal psychoactive but it wasn't until 1967 that the chemist C.H. Eugster and the pharmacologist P.G.Wasser discovered the real psychoactives:

Ibutenic acid- a-amino-3-hydroxy-5-isoxazole acetic acid - This one is toxic on it's natural way. To eliminate it's toxicity people dry the mushrooms. After ingested Ibutenic acid turns into Muscimol

Muscimol - 3-hydroxy-5-aminomethyl isoxazole

Muscazone- This one cause considerably less effects than the previous.

This chemicals are still active on the urine.

Muscarina cause no psychedelic effects and produces salivation, perspiration and lachrymation. An amanita mushrooms carries about 0.0003% of Muscarina.

DOSE

Ibutenic acid- 50-100mg

Muscimol - 10-15mg.

Amanitas potency varies depending the time of the year. It reach it's highest potency on august. According to some experts, one most start ingesting no more than one modest sized mushrooms.

CAUTIÓN

The 90% of deaths cuased by Mushrooms ingestions are caused by Amanita species since the most dangerous mushrooms belong to this family. Some of them are the: A. Verna, A. Virosa y A. Phalloides. Do not go picking Mushrooms if you are not absolutely sure you know which ones to take.
